RADiUS-TWC Pacts With Amazon Prime For Early VOD On ‘Macbeth’

The Weinstein Company’s multi-platform distribution sibling RADiUS-TWC has made a deal that gives Amazon Prime limited exclusive streaming rights to Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth relatively quickly after the movie’s theatrical opening in December. Michael Fassbinder stars as the title character and Marion Cotillard plays Lady Macbeth.

The Weinstein Company hasn’t set a specific theatrical date for Macbeth other than it will be in December, and the duration of Prime’s exclusive window also wasn’t certain. But under terms of the deal with RADiUS-TWC, Prime is expected to begin offering Macbeth within two to three months of the movie’s theatrical debut.

Part of Weinstein Co. thinking behind the deal is RADiUS-TWC’s awards season success over the past couple of years. Their handling of 20 Feet From Stardom and Citizen Four is thought to have contributed to those movies winning Oscars for Best Documentary for the last two Academy Awards.

Kurzel’s version of Macbeth screened to acclaim this year at Cannes. It was adapted by Jacob Koskoff and Todd Louiso. TWC acquired North American rights to the project from StudioCanal in 2013.
