Peter Dinklage Talks 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Role

Wondering what to make of Bolivar Trask, the character played by Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage in next year's mammoth X-Men: Days of Future Past? The first thing the actor would tell you is that he's not really the bad guy in the movie, despite rumors to the contrary.

"He’s a man of science. He’s a man of invention. He actually sees what he’s doing as a good thing — [his ambition is] definitely blind and he’s quite arrogant. He’s strove all his life for a certain respect and attention," Dinklage told Entertainment Weekly about his character, who builds the mutant-hunting Sentinels in the movie. "I didn't want to play the villain."

If Trask goes a little too far in his work, Dinklage argues, it might be because of what he has to deal with on a day-to-day basis. "He's got some hurdles," he argued. "He's up against Richard Nixon." Now we know it: Nixon may have helped save the world from alien invasion, but he was also ultimately responsible for giant genocidal robots roaming America. Nixon's legacy: Far more complicated than seemed immediately apparent, it appears.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released in May 2014.
