But it seems that some viewers of Ridley Scott's new film, "The Martian," thought the movie was based on a true story.

Now, yes, a lot of real science is used in "The Martian," which showcases actual technology used by NASA and mentions the real story about NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory having come into existence after Caltech students set their dorm on fire.
But the stranding of astronaut Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon) on Mars is fiction.
