Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3D ‘Pompeii’ Adds Jared Harris

Guy Ritchie’s ‘Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Adds Jared Harris

Sherlock Holmes star Jared Harris has joined Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) and Kit Harington (Game Of Thrones) in Paul W.S. Anderson‘s period 3D action-adventure. Harris will play Lucretius, a wealthy merchant whose daughter Flavia (Browning) is imperiled as Mount Vesuvius erupts and slave-turned-gladiator Milo (Harington) races to save her. The project, produced by Constantin Film and Impact Pictures, has been kicking around for a while now. Anderson was set to start shooting last spring when Summit was shopping the title to foreign buyers at Cannes, but filming was pushed to this year and is underway now in Pompeii, Italy, moving to Toronto at the end of March. The Resident Evil/Three Musketeers helmer is directing from a script by Janet Scott Batchler & Lee Batchler, Michael Robert Johnson, and Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey). Roman Polanski years ago tried his hand at a competing Pompeii project adapted from Robert Harris’ novel before he bailed.

Anderson and Jeremy Bolt are producing Pompeii for Impact Pictures with Robert Kulzer from Constantin Film and Don Carmody. Martin Moszkowicz is executive producing. Harris is repped by Paradigm and Independent Talent Group in the UK and will be seen this summer in Constantin Film’s The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, distributed by Sony.
