‘Pan’s’ Joe Wright in Talks to Direct Anne Hathaway in ‘The Lifeboat’ for Working Title, Focus
LONDON — “Pan” director Joe Wright is reported to be in talks to direct period drama “The Lifeboat,” in which Anne Hathaway is attached to star.
Hathaway is producing the film, which is an adaptation of Charlotte Rogan’s novel, alongside Working Title and Focus Features.
The story centers on a newly-wed young woman who is put on trial for murder in 1914, and recounts her story to her lawyer. The woman had been a passenger on a ship sailing across the Atlantic. When an explosion sinks the liner, she is transferred to a lifeboat, which is overloaded. A power struggle develops between the passengers when it becomes clear that not everyone can survive.
William Broyles Jr. is penning the script, and takes an exec producer credit. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin produce for Working Title, alongside Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner for Film 360.
Wright recently directed Warner Bros.’ Peter Pan movie “Pan,” which is set for release in October. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund and Rooney Mara. Wright’s credits include “Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice” and “Anna Karenina.”
Wright’s interest in “The Lifeboat” was first reported by Deadline.
