Will Packer To Produce Atlanta-Set Drama ‘Buckhead’ For NBC

After landing his first two TV series — comedies People Are Talking on NBC and Uncle Buck on ABC — Ride Along and Think Like A Man producer Will Packer is jumping back into development. Looking to expand his brand into drama, the first TV sale for his Will Packer Prods. this season is hourlong project Buckhead, which has been set up at NBC through Universal TV where Packer recently re-upped his overall deal through 2017.

Written and executive produced by David McMillan, Buckhead is described as a drama about ambition, sex, and revenge set in the extravagant, high-stakes world of Atlanta politics, entertainment, churches and strip clubs. Atlanta native Packer also is executive producing, with Korin Huggins, head of Television for Will Packer Prods., co-executive producing.

On the longform side, Packer, repped by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham, recently signed on to executive produce A+E Networks’ remake of groundbreaking miniseries Roots. In features, he executive produces Universal’s Straight Outta Compton and his next film, Ride Along 2, opens January 15, 2016.
