Neil Marshall Sets Futuristic Revenge Thriller ‘The Sentence’ Next

EXCLUSIVE: Neil Marshall, the feature helmer who has directed some of the most shocking episodes of Game Of Thrones, has found his next big-screen project. He will direct The Sentence, a futuristic revenge thriller in the vein of Death Wish that has a script by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt. Marc Helwig will produce through Applebox Entertainment, the shingle that the former literary agent hatched with Marshall. EuropaCorp will fully finance.

Marshall already had a fan base from his feature work, but he stepped into rarefied air when he directed two battle-heavy seminal episodes of Game Of Thrones: the Blackwater siege of King’s Landing episode in Season 2, and Season 4’s The Watchers On The Wall. He’s best known for ballsy action films like Centurion, and visceral horror like The Descent, and also helmed the pilots of the Starz series Black Sails and Constantine, along with episodes of Hannibal.

Helwig, a lit agent in London whose moves to ICM Partners and Resolution and helped launch filmmakers including The Crow helmer Corin Hardy and Mama helmer Andy Muschietti, left the agenting game to form Applebox with Marshall. They’ve got a first-look TV deal with Legendary and are building a slate there.

Marshall is repped by Principato Young Entertainment’s David Gardner and Applebox by WME and attorney Carlos Goodman. Marshall most recently wrapped Tales Of Halloween, a horror anthology film that includes contributions from a number of filmmakers. The scribes’ credits include Olympus Has Fallen and the upcoming sequel London Has Fallen. They’re repped by UTA, Kaplan/Perrone and Karl Austen.
