NDM Takes Viggo Mortensen Starrer ‘Untitled’ (EXCLUSIVE)

On the Croisette with Amat Escalante’s “Heli” in Cannes competition, Mexico’s NDM (Nodream-Mantarraya) has acquired international rights to Lisandro Alonso’s “Untitled,” starring Viggo Mortensen.

Pickup continues the international expansion of Mexico’s Mantarraya Prods., a production-distribution-sales house.

Mostly shot in Denmark and Argentina, and ready for delivery next spring “Untitled” follows a Danish man (Mortensen) who moves to Argentina. Pic was produced by Alonso’s 4L in Buenos Aires.

NDM was launched in 2012 by Carlos Reygadas’ Nodream Cinema and Jaime Romandia’s Mantarraya, which produced “Heli,” NDM’s first pickup.

But NDM always intended to spread the net further, Romandia said Wednesday in Cannes.

With its sales and acquisitions head Fiorella Moretti now relocating to Paris, while NDM retains offices in Mexico City, shingle will sell four-to-six foreign and English-language movies a year from any part of the world, including third-party pickups not produced by Mantarraya, Romandia said.

“Heli” is a puppy love story, set against the background of Mexico’s drug gang wars. It will be distributed in France by Jean Labadie’s Le Pacte. Ama Films has taken Greek rights.

Romandia and Reygadas’ joint Mexican distribution company, ND Mantarraya, will release “Heli” in Mexico in July. It has also taken rights to Bruno Dumont’s “Camille Claudel, 1915.”

Mantarraya will produce Pablo Aldrete’s “The Dream of Juu,” a continuation of his “River of Gold,” set in the 19th century, and turning on an Apache chief. It is also producing a documentary on Japanese architect Tadao Ando, helmed by Romandia.

Produced by Mantarraya sister company Cadereyta Films, family-skewed toon pic “Stone Boy” will be released by ND Mantarraya in Mexico this fall, Romandia said.
