Mipcom: Canal Plus, Disney Media Distribution Renew Pact

CANNES– Canal Plus and Disney Media Distribution France have reupped their programming agreement including first run feature films and SVOD services.

Kicking off in January, the pact gives Canal Plus access to movies from Walt Disney Pictures, Marvel Studios, Disney/Pixar and Lucasfilm pics. Pics included in the deal include Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action “The Jungle Book” and Lucasfilm’s upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The agreement also includes cult pics from the Star Wars franchise.

CanalPlay, the SVOD service of Canal Plus, will continue distributing ABC Studios and Disney Movies on Demand.

“This agreement starts a new chapter in our relationship with the Canal Plus Group. We are sure Canal Plus audiences in France will thoroughly enjoy a greater variety of Disney’s much loved characters and gripping, emotive storytelling wherever, however and whenever they wish, across a portfolio of programming that includes a fantastic slate of feature films and television series,” said Astrid Barbot, general manager of Disney Media Distribution France.

Didier Lupfer, who heads Canal Plus Group’s film division, emphasized the importance of the agreement renewal with Disney as it will give the French pay TV subscribers access to “some of our greatest productions from the prestigious Disney studios, which also include films from Marvel Studios, Disney●Pixar and Lucasfilm, starting with the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
