Marvel and Disney Team For 'Seekers of the Weird'

Details of the much-teased collaboration between Marvel Comics and Walt Disney Imagineering have finally been released, with the announcement of a brand-new series titled Disney Kingdoms: Seekers of the Weird to launch in January.

The project was revealed via the Inside the Magic Disney fan site, with Marvel editor Bill Rosemann describing the collaboration between the two Disney siblings as being "the ultimate team-up for fans" of both companies. "Working hand-in-hand with the world-famous Walt Disney Imagineers, Marvel’s best and brightest creators will unleash entire worlds inspired by and built around the attractions and characters that you’ve always known -- but will experience for the very first time," he said.

STORY: Marvel and Disney Imagineering 'Dare' to Tease New Weirdness

The Disney Kingdoms brand launches with an attraction and characters fans don't know, however; Seekers of the Weird, which will be written by Brandon Siefert and drawn by Karl Moline, is based on the "Museum of the Weird," which was an unseen and unfinished precursor to the more-familiar "Haunted Mansion" attraction.

This isn't the first time Marvel has worked with Disney-owned properties. In 2010, Marvel announced a revival for the Disney-owned Crossgen comic titles (Sadly, only three of the five announced series saw print, due to low sales), and the publisher has also released graphic novels based on ABC's Castle and Once Upon a Time series.

According to Marvel's SVP of Publishing David Gabriel, "It's still up in the air as to what attractions we'll work on next," although he promises more details soon. Those may come as early as this weekend, as more details about Seekers of the Weird are due to be revealed at Marvel's Cup O' Joe panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday afternoon at 4pm.
