‘Martyrs’ Acquired By Anchor Bay; ‘Shooting The Warwicks’ Gets Release Date

Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to the feature film Martyrs, from Wild Bunch. These rights include theatrical, Digital HD, Blu-ray/DVD and broadcast but do not include the first pay TV window. The revenge thriller follows a woman and her childhood friend who team up to exact payback from people who once victimized and abused them. It stars Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars), Caitlin Carmichael (300: Rise Of An Empire), Kate Burton (127 Hours), Bailey Nobel (True Blood) and Taylor John Smith (Insidious: Chapter 3). Directed by Kevin Goetz and Michael Goetz, Martyrs is produced by Peter Safran (The Conjuring). The deal was negotiated by Carole Baraton of Wild Bunch and Josh Thomashow, head of acquisitions for Anchor Bay, following the film’s screening during Cannes.

Shooting The Warwicks

Shooting The Warwicks, a comedy that opened SXSW 2013 under the title Reality Show, will open in theaters on August 7 via Vega Baby Releasing after a digital bow August 4. Written and directed by and starring Adam Rifkin (Detroit Rock City), the dark comedic satire chronicles a TV producer (Rifkin) who creates a new reality show called Meet The Warwicks in which an unsuspecting family is picked at random and put under 24 hour surveillance without their knowledge. There’s only one problem: the family is boring. Under pressure from the network to deliver something spectacular, he decides to inject a little producer-created conflict to spark a fire. Things spiral from there. Vega Baby acquired the pic in April.
