Luke Perry Lists Hancock Park Fixer Upper

SELLER: Luke Perry
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $2.899 million
SIZE: 4,062 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Back in 1998, when he was a smoldering and beau-hunky young superstar on the smash hit teen drama “Beverly Hills 90210,” Luke Perry paid $967,500 for a 1930s Mediterranean villa on just under a third of an acre in L.A.’s historic and historically affluent Hancock Park ‘hood that’s come up for sale this week with an asking price of $2.899 million. Though still possessed of some of its original architectural charms — i.e., stately, vine-encrusted façade, grand double-height foyer with wrought iron railed circular staircase, mahogany paneled library and colorfully tiled bathrooms — the barely furnished, 4,062-square-foot spread looks frumpy and, let’s be honest, downright dumpy in current listing photographs. There are five bedrooms — one downstairs and four upstairs — and 3.5 bathrooms, according to listing details, plus a well-proportioned, wood-floored formal living room with fireplace, a formal dining room, and a not exactly au courant kitchen that’s joined by a roomy laundry room and a separate breakfast room. There’s extra storage and a finished playroom in the basement while a private terrace off the master bedroom overlooks the backyard that comprises a fair-sized flat lawn, detached three-car garage, and a heated swimming pool.

Numerous online resources suggest that in addition to the depressingly down-on-her-heels fixer upper in Hancock Park, Mister Perry also owns a bucolic, 380-acre-plus spread in rural Vanleer, Tenn., about 50 miles west of Nashville.

Since his heady, teen idol days on “90210,” Mister Perry has worked steadily, albeit to far less fanfare, with recurring roles in a number of television series including Oz” and “Jeremiah,” the latter of which he also produced. In more recent years he appeared on “Body of Proof” and the lone season of “Detective McLean: Ties That Bind” and at least three times in the last year he’s popped up on the “Celebrity Name Game” game show.
