'Lone Survivor': Texas Theater Cancels Other Film Screenings to Accommodate Demand

As Peter Berg's Lone Survivor claimed nationwide victory at the weekend box office with a $38.5 million haul, one Texas theater made headlines for canceling screenings of other films.

"Lone Survivor did far more business than we expected it to and we did make room for it," a general manager for The Grand Theatre 14 in Conroe, Texas told The Hollywood Reporter. The accommodations were made for the Friday and Saturday showings of the film.

The manager confirmed the authenticity of a photo of a theater sign posted on conservative site The Blaze. The sign apologized for the cancelation of multiple screenings of films such as The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, Grudge Match, Paranormal Activity, Anchorman 2 and other titles  "due to the hit movie Lone Survivor."

The canceled screenings seen in the photo only applied to Saturday showings, the The Grand Theatre 14 general manager told THR. Many of the top performing theaters for Lone Survivor in its debut weekend were theaters located in the state of Texas.

The war title, which received an A+ CinemaScore, stars Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster and Taylor Kitsch in a story adapted from the Afghanistan-set book Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10

The R-rated Universal film, whose screenplay was written by Berg, received an Oscar qualifying limited theatrical run in late December before its expansion this weekend.
