Retro-Horror Pic ‘Ritual’ Lands Buyers

EXCLUSIVE: The pic marks the feature debut of writer-director Mickey Keating and centers on a man who discovers that his estranged wife has killed a stranger who is connected to a dangerous cult. They attempt to figure out what to do with the body and get out while they still can before the rest of the cult shows up. Lisa Summerscales, Dean Cates and Derek Phillips star. Continental Media has closed multi-territory deals on Ritual, from Eric B. Fleischman’s EBF Productions and Chelsea Peters’ Chelsea Stardust, through After Dark Films, which will distribute in those markets. After Dark has a home video output deal in the U.S. with Lionsgate. Continental will shop the remaining territories — including Canada, Germany, Japan and Spain — next month in Cannes. “The team behind Ritual is an extremely talented group and represent a new generation of horror filmmakers”, said Continental’s Matthew Shreder, who co-founded the boutique film sales outfit with James Andrew Felts. “We are thrilled to be standing behind their first film, and many more to come”.

Keating also wrote the feature The Night Stalkers, which Peters is attached to direct beginning this summer. Fleischman, repped by ICM Partners, just wrapped production on Clara Mamet’s Two-Bit Waltz.
