‘Labor Day’ Partners with American Pie Council for National Pie Day
What damage “American Pie” did for the pie industry, “Labor Day” has reversed.
Paramount Pictures’ “Labor Day,” a film that features a intimate pie-baking scene with stars Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet, is partnering with the American Pie Council for National Pie Day on Jan. 23 — which happens to be a week before the movie premieres nationwide on Jan. 31 and shouldn’t be confused with the more math-focused Pi Day on March 14. (The drama was released in select theaters on Dec. 27, making the Dec. 31 awards-qualifying cut-off by a nose and resulting in a Golden Globe nom for Winslet).
Paramount will promote National Pie Day on all “Labor Day” marketing material. The APC has launched a Facebook ticket-giveaway for a private “Labor Day” viewing party. The winner and 50 guests will watch a screening of the film in their town.
A recent independent survey commissioned by the APC and conducted by Nielsen found that pie is a preferred dessert on special occasions (perhaps even on Labor Day), and apple pie is the most popular flavor. “Labor Day’s” sensual scene involved a peach pie. Maybe it will sway the vote?
