Jennifer Lawrence to Star In and Produce 'Rules of Inheritance' for FilmNation
Jennifer Lawrence will star in and produce "The Rules of Inheritance," for FilmNation, which will finance the film and handle international sales. Lawrence, who just won an Oscar for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook," will act for another Oscar winner – Susanne Bier.
Bier, whose "In A Better World" won the prize for Best Foreign Language film, will direct "Rules" from a script by "Shame" writer Abi Morgan. Bier just directed Lawrence in "Serena," a film in which Lawrence plays a Depression-era woman who cannot bear chlildren.
Morgan's script for "Rules" is based on Claire Bidwell Smith's memoir about a young woman (Lawrence) who loses both her parents to cancer as a young adult. Alone and vulnerable, she ventures on a journey where discovers a great deal about her self.
"We are thrilled to be working with the dream team of Jennifer Lawrence, Susanne Bier, Abi Morgan and Bruce Cohen," FilmNation CEO Glen Basner and production chief Aaron Ryder said in a statement. "We have no doubt that this inspirational and hopeful book will be turned into an emotionally powerful movie that audiences around the world will fall in love with."
Cohen, who produced "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Milk," will produce "Rules." FilmNation will executive produce.
FilmNation's Allison Silver brought the project to the company, which made the deal with CAA. CAA, which reps Lawrence, Bier and Smith, will package the film and shop domestic distribution rights.
Lawrence has wrapped four different movies this year – "Serena," "The Devil You Know," David O. Russell's "American Hustle" and the next "Hunger Games" film.
