James Gray Sets Sci-Fi Project At RT Features

Brazil-based RT Features has come on board to produce an untitled James Gray sci-fi thriller based on Gray’s original script from which he will direct.

Deal was announced Friday at Cannes. RT CEO Rodrigo Teixeira will produce, with the company’s Sophie Mas and Lourenco Sant’ Anna executive producing.

Ethan Gross, who was a writer on the show “Fringe,” will co-write with Gray.

Further details about the project are being kept under wraps.

CAA brokered the deal, and will be selling domestic rights.

RT Features recently produced Noah Baumbach’s “Frances Ha,” starring Greta Gerwig, Mickey Sumner and Adam Driver, and Kelly Reichardt’s “Night Moves,” starring Jesse Eisenberg and Dakota Fanning.

Gray’s “The Immigrant,” starring Jeremy Renner, Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard, will be screened in competition at Cannes. The Weinstein Company has U.S. distribution rights.

“The Immigrant” is the third film by Gray to play in competition at Cannes following “We Own the Night” in 2007 and “Two Lovers” in 2008. He also wrote the screenplay for Guillaume Canet’s “Blood Ties.”
