James Franco Finds 'Good People' at Millennium Films (Update)

Millennium Films is packaging a film adaptation of the novel "Good People," based on the novel by Marcus Sakey, with James Franco the front-runner to star in the crime thriller, the company confirmed to TheWrap.

The project was misidentified in an earlier report on Wednesday by TheWrap as being an adaptation of the Broadway play "Good People," by David Lindsay-Abaire.

The story in Marcus Sakey's book, "Good People," follows Tom and Anna Reed, a young couple that find a stack of cash in their deceased neighbor's house.

The film's synopsis, like the book, follows a couple in their 30s who get into severe debt for all the right reasons. Then they find the tenant in their downstairs apartment has passed away and left $400,000 in cash.

All they have to do is take the money, and all of their problems will be solved. So they do, and that's when very bad things start happening to good people.

Henrik Genz will direct the film based on an adaptation of the book by Kelly Masterson. Ben Forkner, Tobey Maguire, Eric Kanzler, Thomas Gammeltoft, Mark Gill, and Ed Cathell are producing. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Matthew Plouffe are executive producing.

Sakey's novel "Good People" was published in 2009. Sakey's other credits include "The Blade Itself" and "The Two Deaths of Daniel Hayes."

Millennium Films has been working on an increasing number of high-profile films, including "The Iceman," which played at the Venice International Film Festival and in Telluride this year.
