Jacki Weaver Joins Cast of Outback Thriller ‘Goldstone’

Two-time Oscar nominated actress Jacki Weaver has joined the cast of “Goldstone,” an Australian outback thriller that shoots later this month. The picture is a follow up to 2013 picture “Mystery Road,” that opened the Sydney festival and played at the Toronto festival the same year.

It is again directed by Ivan Sen, and produced by David Jowsey and Greer Simpkin, through Bunya Productions. The production will return to Winton in Queensland state and see the construction of a Goldstone town in Middleton, Queensland.

Other cast includes Aaron Pedersen (“The Fear of Darkness,” “Mystery Road”), returning as Jay Swan, an indigenous detective, Alex Russell, (“Unbroken,” “Carrie”), David Gulpilil (“Charlie’s Country,” “The Proposition”), David Wenham (“Paper Planes,” “Oranges and Sunshine”) and Tom E. Lewis (“The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith,” “Red Hill”). Weaver, whose career enjoyed a huge revival with another Australian thriller, “Animal Kingdom,” earned her two supporting role acting Oscar nominations for “Silver Linings Playbook,” and “Animal Kingdom.”

The film will receive A$530,000 (US$407,000) of direct support from Screen Quensland, which expects to see A$2.15 million (US$1.65 million) of ‘Queensland production expenditure’ from the filming process. It also received direct funding of A$1.17 million through the Screen Australia Indigenous unit.

Goldstone is a Bunya Productions film in association with Screen Queensland and Screen Australia. It will be distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Transmission Films, with international sales by Arclight Films.
