J.J. Abrams Calls Dying Fan’s Wish To See ‘Star Trek’ Movie “Unbelievably Touching”

J.J. Abrams never sought publicity for showing dying Star Trek fan Daniel Craft a rough cut of the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness. And today, two days after Craft’s death, Abrams felt uncomfortable when asked about the gesture after the TCA panel for his NBC series Revolution. “It’s very sensitive,” Abrams said, looking genuinely humbled. He did say, however, that it was “unbelievably touching” to have been asked and clearly was overwhelmed by the opportunity and responsibility to grant a dying man’s wish. Craft was diagnosed with terminal cancer six weeks ago and, following an online post by one of his friends about how much Craft wanted to see the new Star Trek movie or at least a trailer for it, Abrams responded privately, and a rep for Paramount Pictures, the studio behind Star Trek, took a DVD with an early cut to Craft’s home for a special screening of the film that isn’t coming out until May.
