‘Inside Out’ Top-Selling Disc for Third Straight Week

Walt Disney Studios’ “Inside Out” remained the top-selling disc for the third consecutive week.

The latest animated adventure from Pixar has been No. 1 for three weeks on Nielsen VideoScan’s overall disc sales chart. And on Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart, “Inside Out” regained the No. 1 spot for the week ending Nov. 22 after ceding the spot to Paramount’s “Terminator Genisys” the prior week.

The fifth “Terminator” film slipped to No. 4 on both charts after bowing the prior week at No. 2 on the overall disc chart and No. 1 on the Blu-ray Disc chart. In its fifth week in stores, Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World” moved back to No. 2 on both charts from No. 4 the prior week.

Debuting at No. 3, also on both national home video sales charts, was Warner’s “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” big-screen remake of the 1960s spy TV series. The theatrical underperformer only made $45.5 million in U.S. theaters, although its worldwide take is pegged at $107 million – against a budget estimated at $75 million.

Rounding out the top five on the overall disc sales chart was Universal Pictures’ “Trainwreck,” which debuted the prior week at No. 3. On the Blu-ray Disc sales chart the No.5 spot went to Warner’s “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” Sales of the third and final film in the fantasy trilogy, initially released in March, were fueled by the release of a new extended edition.

According to Nielsen data, “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” generated 46% of its total unit sales from Blu-ray Disc, while “Hobbit” generated 70% of its sales from BD.

On Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart for the week, “Jurassic World” moved to No. 1 now that its 28-day holdback from Redbox is over. “Inside Out” stayed at No. 2, while the previous week’s top rental, “Terminator Genisys,” slipped to No. 3.

Rounding out the top five: Warner’s “San Andreas” at No. 4 and Twentieth Century Fox’s “Paper Towns,” fresh off its four-week holdback from Redbox, at No. 5.
