Hurricane Films Adds Three Titles to Slate
LONDON — Brit shingle Hurricane Films, the outfit behind Terence Davies’ 2009 BAFTA-nominated “Of Time and the City,” has picked up three titles for its production slate.
The production house has acquired rights to the adaptation of Thai kickboxing true story “Prayer Before Dawn,” “Triple Word Score” and “Two Sevens Clash.”
“Prayer Before Dawn” is based on the book of the same name by ex-professional kickboxer Billy Moore, who penned his account of a life-changing five-year prison sentence in the notorious “Bangkok Hilton,” where he endured horrific conditions and fought for survival.
Story is being adapted for the big screen by Nick Saltrese (“Eastenders,” “Emmerdale”).
“Triple Word Score” is helmed by Carl Hunter and penned by Frank Cottrell Boyce (“24 Hour Party People”) and is a rites-of-passage tale about a family at odds with each other set against the backdrop of the world of Scrabble enthusiasts.
“Two Sevens Clash,” which is set to be directed by Mark Jay, is based on the true experiences of a young Orthodox Jewish punk rocker in 1977 London.
Hurricane Films has created its first Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (a U.K. government administered scheme that offers 50% tax relief to people who invest shares in a company) to financially back the films.
The outfit is in development on Emily Dickinson biopic “A Quiet Passion,” helmed by Davies and starring Cynthia Nixon.
It is also in pre-production on Davies’ “Sunset Song,” starring Agyness Deyn and Peter Mullan.
