Fox Star Studios Inks With Tamil Producer

Fox Star Studios is looking to expand elsewhere in India, signing a two-pic deal with Tamil producer C.V. Kumar (“Pizza”) and his Thirukumaran Entertainment.

The pact with Kumar comprises pics “Mundasupatti” and “V. Chitram,” both of which are slated for release in 2014, according to a statement from the studio.

“We are focused on increasing our presence in the Tamil film industry, as we have done in the Hindi film industry,” said Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios in a statement Tuesday. “While we have extended our successful association in Tamil with A.R. Murugadoss to Hindi as well, we are also increasing our footprint in the Tamil industry by partnering with C.V. Kumar’s Thirukumaran Entertainment.

“Kumar has proven himself as one of the market leaders who is high-concept driven with budget conscious — qualities that resonate well with our brand . Together, we promise highly entertaining cinema.”

The studio’s Hindi production “Bang Bang” with Hrithik Roshan has been delayed while the Bollywood star recovers from brain surgery.

Kumar broke out in 2010 with the low-budget “Attakathi” and followed up by producing the horror film “Pizza” in 2012.

Comedy thriller “Soodhu kavvum” came out in May to positive reviews. Kumar is currently working on “Pizza 2.”

Besides Murugadoss’ “Raja rani,” which Fox Star Studios will release in September, it is producing “Cuckoo” with the Next Big Film. The studio has had some success in the Tamil film biz with “Engeyum epothom” and “Vathikuchi.”
