Hamptons Fest Sets ‘Twenty Feet’ to Kick Off SummerDocs

The Hamptons Int’l. Film Fest has wrangled Morgan Neville’s “Twenty Feet from Stardom” to kick off its fifth-annual four-part SummerDocs series starting June 15.

The summer series presents East End auds with a curated batch of docus in an effort to cast an early spotlight on potential Oscar contenders.

Neville’s pic pays tribute to the backup singers who have shaped and styled pop music over the years. Auds will also be treated to a perf from Darlene Love, who is featured in the film.

On July 5, Alec Baldwin will return as presenter of the series for “Gasland Part II,” the follow-up to Josh Fox’s Academy Award-nommed “Gasland.” “Part II” further investigates fracking as one of the most contentious environmental issues of the contempo era.

“From Morgan Neville’s moving portrait of the singers that provide the backbone for much of our beloved music, to Josh Fox’s searing exploration of a topic so important to our planet’s future, we continue to highlight the breadth of subject and style in contemporary documentary film,” said the fest’s artistic director, David Nugent.

Two additional flicks will be announced at a later date. Tickets are available online or at the Guild Hall Box Office. The 21st Annual Hamptons Int’l. Film Fest will be held over Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 10 – 14.
