Codeblack Films has acquired North American distribution rights to “Frankie & Alice,” a drama starring Halle Berry as a woman with multiple personality disorder, Codeblack and its parent company Lionsgate announced Wednesday.

Berry, who won an Oscar for her performance in Lionsgate’s “Monster’s Ball,” produced the movie with Vincent Cirrincione. Freestyle Releasing distributed “Frankie & Alice” in one theater for one week in late 2010 for awards purposes, and Berry was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama.

Codeblack will now release the movie for a full theatrical run on April 4, 2014.

Stellan Skarsgard and Emmy nominees Phylicia Rashad and Chandra Wilson also star in the film, which is based on a true story.

The company’s last release was “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain,” a concert film that grossed more than $32 million at the domestic box office this summer. Its upcoming slate includes George Tillman Jr.’s “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete,” romantic drama “Things Never Said” and “Repentance,” which stars Forest Whitaker and Anthony Mackie.

Codeblack Films’ General Manager Quincy Newell negotiated the film acquisition with David B. Strapko of 37 Star Media Fund Corp. and Stephanie Denton of New Cadence Entertainment.
