Gremlins 3 Is Happening, And It's Not A Reboot, Confirms Zach Galligan

Secure your mogwai, people, because ‘Gremlins 3’ is on.

Original 'Gremlins’ star Zach Galligan confirmed the plans during a special screening of the first movie in London this week.

“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form,” he told the audience at the Prince Charles Cinema.

“Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade.

“So the only thing they will be - and apparently are going to be – doing is something along the lines of like 'Jurassic World’, where it will be 30 years later.”

Galligan went on to say that he didn’t know if he would be starring again, but is remaining hopeful.

“I swear on my life, I don’t know if I’m in it or not, but I think there is probably a decent chance since I’m one of the few people left standing from the first movie,” he added.

“Hopefully they won’t use too much CGI, or the CGI will be really good like the 'Planet of the Apes’ movies, and hopefully we’ll have some practical effects too.

“It seems to still speak to people across the years. I think that’s because the film’s not very date specific. My hairstyle is maybe the most dated thing in the movie.”

The original movie, directed by Joe Dante and Chris Columbus, emerged in 1984, following Galligan’s Billy Peltzer, the teenager gifted a mysterious creature by his father.

The creature, called a mogwai and named Gizmo, is not allowed to get wet, be exposed to direct sunlight, or fed after midnight.

If they do, the creatures then turn into the evil gremlins, a group of which, led by alpha gremlin Spike, cause murderous mayhem in the sleepy town of Kingston Falls.

It was a smash hit, earning $153 million (around $350 million today, or about £230 million) from its $11 million budget.

A sequel emerged in 1990, 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch’, but it flopped catastrophically, making $41 million, but having cost $50 million.
