Greg Foster Named CEO of IMAX Entertainment
Greg Foster has been named chief executive officer of IMAX Entertainment and senior executive vice president of IMAX Corp., the big screen company said Monday.
In his new capacity, he will continue to report directly to IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. Prior to his promotion, Foster was chairman and president of IMAX Entertainment. He has been with the company since 2001.
"For more than 12 years, Greg has played a crucial and strategic role at IMAX Corp., including increasing our access to top-level movies being produced in North America as well as around the globe," Gelfond said in a statement. "As we look to expand both our global footprint and film slate, Greg's relationships with filmmakers, studios and exhibitors, as well as his understanding of quality, have been and will continue to be invaluable to IMAX."
At IMAX, Foster has helped transform the technology maker into a vital component to major tentpole films' box office success -- as important, in some respects, as 3D. It has become a favorite format for filmmakers like Christopher Nolan and J.J. Abrams who have shot sequences for their "Dark Knight" and "Star Trek" films with special IMAX cameras.
In addition to his more than a decade at IMAX, Foster spent 15 years at MGM/UA where he served in various senior management posts, including executive vice president of production and senior vice president of motion picture marketing and research.
