‘Gotham’ Ties ‘Supergirl’ For First Time In Live+SD, ‘Superstore’ Gets Sampled

Since Supergirl‘s big premiere, its time-slot rival Gotham has been closing the gap on the fellow DC superhero drama, logging its most competitive Live+Same Day finish last Monday (1.4 in adults 18-49 vs. 1.5 for Supergirl) and tying the new CBS drama for the first time in Live+3 (for the same episode last week, November 23) and in Live+7 (for November 9). Now, with its fall finale that featured a sneak peek of the Batman V Superman movie, Gotham also tied Supergirl in Live+SD for the first time with a 1.6 18-49 rating. Both series were up week to week, +0.2 for Gotham and +0.1 for Supergirl.

NBC previewed the first of two new midseason comedies behind The Voice, Superstore. The network’s fast national ratings were inflated by NFL preemptions in Baltimore and Cleveland, so Superstore‘s numbers — 2.2 for the 10 PM episode and 1.9 for the 10:30 PM one — will be adjusted down in the finals by 0.2-0.3. Even with that, the workplace half-hour starring America Ferrera received decent sampling and will finish as the highest-rated NBC comedy premiere since Marry Me on Tuesday last fall (2.3). Superstore and fellow new comedy Telenovela, which will be previewed after The Voice next Monday, will get tested on January 4 when they launch in their regular time slots as a 8-9 PM block on Monday. The Voice (3.0 in the fast nationals before a 0.2-0.3 downward adjustment) rebounded from last week’s Monday season low (2.5). NBC is projected to top the broadcast networks in 18-49 and total viewers.

ABC did well with its 8-10 PM Charlie Brown block. At 8 PM, It’s Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown anniversary special did a 1.8 in 18-49, followed by A Charlie Brown Christmas (2.0), which logged its most watched outing (7.3 million) since 2012. At 10 PM, The Great Holiday Baking Show (1.2), a Christmas-themed limited-run adaptation of the UK hit The Great British Bake-Off, did OK in its debut, which was up 20% from the premiere of the CBS version in May 2013, matching that series’ high. The Great Holiday Baking Show also matched a season high in the Monday 10 PM hour for ABC.

Elsewhere, the CW’s Crazy Ex Girlfriend (0.4) was up a tenth to tie a series high, while the finale of Fox’s Minority Report (0.7) shot up 0.2 from last Monday.

Though the Baltimore Ravens pulled off a 33-27 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football last night, the ESPN show was down 25% from last week’s season high. Last night’s 8:15-11:45 PM MNF pulled in a 7.4 in metered market rating with a 8.5 peak in the dramatic final 15 minutes. Good numbers for most shows, but with two of the worst teams in the NFL this season going to head to head, last night was a season low. Still, MNF and ESPN are expected to again win the night on both cable and broadcast as it does most Mondays.
