Global Screen Acquires Sci-fi Thriller ‘Fang Rung’ Starring ‘The Bridge’ Actress Sofia Helin

Munich-based sales company Global Screen has picked up Max Kestner’s sci-fi thriller “Fang Rung,” which stars Danish actor Carsten Bjornlund (“The Legacy,” “ID:A”) and Swedish thesp Sofia Helin (“Arn,” “The Bridge”). Principal photography started last week in Copenhagen. Global Screen will present first images from the movie at the American Film Market.

The screenplay by Dunja Gry Jensen (“Terribly Happy”) is set in the year 2095, as the world is ravaged by ecological disaster. The oceans have risen, and all natural freshwater has disappeared. Behind fortified dams, Copenhagen has survived the flood, but for how long? Scientists experimenting with time travel have discovered a possible way out. The Ministry of Defense sends Fang Rung, the head of scientific security, back in time, to 2015. Rung contacts scientist Mona Lindkvist, who has discovered a protein that can transform saltwater into freshwater.

The film is produced by SF Film Production in co-production with Tre Vanner, Yellow Film & TV and in collaboration with Nordisk Film Shortcut, Chimney and Red Rental Ystad. It is supported by the Danish Film Institute/Kim Leona, DR, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, the Swedish Film Institute, the Finnish Film Foundation, SVT, YLE and Creative Europe Media.

“’Fang Rung’ is a clever and human story with a thrilling plot,” said Klaus Rasmussen, senior sales manager at Global Screen. “This project includes some of Scandinavia’s best talent.”
