'The Glee Project' Isn't Canceled, Says Oxygen

Oxygen wants to clear up reports that its singing and acting competition, "The Glee Project," has been scrapped.

An Oxygen spokesperson tells TheWrap, "What TVLine reported was speculation. 'The Glee Project' has not been cancelled."

From what sources with knowledge of the project tell us, the series is simply on hold pending Fox's decision on whether "Glee" gets another season. That makes sense.

"The Glee Project," which is executive produced by "Glee" boss Ryan Murphy and executive producer Dante Di Loreto, became a pretty effective way to find new talent for the Fox musical series. "Glee" castmembers guest star each week to help introduce a lesson and mentor the contenders. The winners (and Season 1's runner-ups) got a multiple-episode guest arc on "Glee," including Alex Newell, Samuel Larson and Blake Jenner.

The series earned itself a small, but passionate viewership. Season 1 ended with a series high of 1.24 million people. Season 2 had a harder time of it and only attracted .82 million viewers to its finale.

How's "Glee" doing in the ratings? The most recent episode on March 21 drew a 2.0/5 in the ad-coveted 18-49 demo, which was even with the last week, and 5.9 million total viewers, which was up from the previous week.
