Focus Circles ‘Jurassic World’ Director Colin Trevorrow’s ‘Book of Henry’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Following the record-shattering success of “Jurassic World,” it’s no surprise how quickly a studio moved to ensure they were next in line to work with the film’s director, Colin Trevorrow.

While negotiations have yet to begin, sources tell Variety that Focus Features is in discussions to acquire domestic distribution rights to Trevorrow’s next movie, “Book of Henry.”

Sidney Kimmel Entertainment will finance and co-produce the film with Double Nickel Entertainment. Sidney Kimmel will produce, along with Double Nickel’s Jenette Kahn and Adam Richman. SKE’s Carla Hacken and Jim Tauber are executive producers.

Production is expected to start this fall in New York so casting will likely rev up over the next month. The script was written by Gregg Hurwitz, but plot details are being kept under wraps.

If a deal closes, as expected, Trevorrow will remain in the Universal family, following their successful collaboration on “Jurassic World,” which has already hauled more than $1.2 billion worldwide, including $500 million in the U.S. Another interesting tie-in is the relationship that Trevorrow already had with Focus CEO Peter Schlessel, who released Trevorrow’s Sundance hit “Safety Not Guaranteed,” under his FilmDistric banner.

Given how quickly his follow-up project has been set up, there’s a possibility that Trevorrow would have time to direct the next potential installment in the “Jurassic World” franchise. Trevorrow is also developing the sci-fier “Intelligent Life.”

He is repped by Verve, 3 Arts and Ginsburg Daniels.
