FilmSharks Boards Guy Pearce-starrer ‘Mis-Fits’
MADRID – Continuing the move of international companies into English-language fare with name casts, FilmSharks International has boarded Guy Pearce starrer “Mis-Fits,” a singular comedy from writer-director L.D. Napier with Doug Claybourne (“The Mask of Zorro,” “Rumble Fish”) producing.
One of Hollywood’s most seasoned producers, Claybourne also took an executive producer credit on “The Fast and the Furious,” “North Country,” “The War of The Roses,” and “Nights in Rodanthe).
In a deal struck by Claybourne and John Logigian for the production and FilmSharks founder Guido Rud and Roxy Kohan on behalf of FilmSharks, Rud’s sales-financing company will handle the international pre-sales and part of the international equity financing on “Mis-Fits,” which is looking to go into production in 2014.
Also written by Napier, whose latest picture was the Woody Harrelson narrated brain injury docu feature “Every Twenty One Seconds,” “Mis-Fits” narrates the misadventures of a Brooklyn detective, played by Pearce (“Iron Man 3,” “Memento,” “Prometheus”, “The Hurt Locker,”), whose job is to encounter the whereabouts of lost or dead relatives.
Subject to availability, other key cast features Cloris Leachman (“The Last Picture Show”), Seymour Cassel (“Rushmore”) and Virginie Ledoyen (“The Beach”).
“We have been looking to complete the finance puzzle on ‘Mis-Fits’ for too long. I’m thrilled that the addition of our friends at FilmSharks may be just the right fit to get this done,” Claybourne said.
The movie project, he added, is inspired by true events when, seven or so years ago, Napier’s grandmother died. “After her passing, the question was, ‘Where is grandpa?’ And no one knew for sure: He was buried somewhere in England. The hunt began and the idea of a profession – a ‘necro-detective’ who finds lost dead relatives – rose to the writer.”
For FilmSharks Intl.’s Rud, “Working with Doug Claybourne and Guy Pearce is like a dream come true for me, as I have loved all their major hits for many years and now we have the chance to work together.”
For the record, Napier’s own quest had a happy ending with the director flying with her grandmother’s ashes in a duffle bag to be buried and joined with the grandfather in England.
