FilmEngine Buys U.S. Rights To Norway’s ‘Norwegian Cozy’

U.S. companies can’t seem to get enough of Scandinavian TV dramas. Following such imported fare from the region as The Killing and The Bridge, FilmEngine Entertainment wants to bring the Norwegian dysfunctional-family drama format Norwegian Cozy to the States. The LA-based finance and production company has secured the rights creator-director Thomas Torjussen’s series about a 36-year-old who splits with his partner and moves back in with his mother and dementia-ridden father. FilmEngine CEO Anthony Rhulen, President Navid McIlhargey and Head of TV David Boorstein will exec produce, along with Katrina Wood of MediaXchange, who brought the series to FilmEngine. The company is shopping for a showrunner. Skogenfilm produced the original series, which was co-created by Daniel Voldheim.
