Duplass Brothers Sign To Script ‘Mule’ For Todd Phillips To Direct At Warner Bros

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros, Electric City Entertainment and Todd Phillips’ Green Hat Films have set Mark & Jay Duplass to adapt Mule, the Tony D’Souza novel about a young couple’s unexpected entry into the world of “muling” marijuana cross-country to scratch out a living during the recession. Phillips is developing the project to direct.

Electric City partners Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell found the book and are producing with Green Hat’s Phillips and Scott Budnick. The Duplass siblings recently released Jeff, Who Lives At Home through Paramount Vantage, with The Do-Deca Pentathlon coming from Fox Searchlight and Red Flag.

Deadline first revealed Mule when Phillips renewed Green Hat’s first look deal after the success of The Hangover franchise. He is working on a third installment of that series.

ICM reps the Duplass Brothers, while CAA reps Phillips.
