Doha Film Institute Partners With Sarajevo Film Festival

The Doha Film Institute has linked up with the Sarajevo Film Festival on a number of new initiatives aimed to increase connections between Arab and European cinema.

This year, DFI is set to curate a selection of Arab pics, including Mahdi Fleifel’s “A World Not Ours” and Ahd’s “Sanctity,” which will screen at Sarajevo as part of its Sarajevo Film Festival Partner Presents program.

In turn, Sarajevo will promote southeast European cinema by presenting three pics from its official 2013 program at the Qumra Film Festival in March 2014.

DFI is also funding a recipient to participate in Sarajevo’s Cine-Link co-production market this year.

Further, DFI will curate three recent works by Arab filmmakers at next year’s Sarajevo fest and again invite recipients of DFI grants to participate in the CineLink co-production market.

DFI CEO Abdulaziz Al Khater said: “As we at DFI continue to shape our two new festivals – the Ajyal Film Festival for the Young and the Qumra Film Festival, Doha – we are focusing attention on forming new partnerships with like-minded organizations.

“DFI and the Sarajevo Film Festival share common goals of cultural exchange. This new partnership will allow us to continue our support for emerging Arab filmmakers by providing them with an international festival platform to show their work, giving recipients of DFI grants greater industry experience and exposure.”

Mirsad Purivatra, Sarajevo Film Festival director, added: “We hope that the partnership with Doha Film Institute will open a new horizon, allow us to experience the unknown and bring new inspiration to both our audience and our filmmakers.”
