David Letterman & Twitter: How #ThanksDave Did In The Past 24 Hours

David Letterman fans and detractors took to social media to express well wishes/good riddances in the hours leading up to, during and after last night’s Late Show bow-out, wrapping a 33-year career hosting broadcast late-night TV.

According to social web tracker Topsy.com, 145,578 tweets in the past 24 hours used the hashtag #thanksdave. Also, 216,000 tweets were sent mentioning “Letterman,” according to the service.

CBS said, when asked, the finale “gathered hundreds of thousands of tweets and more than 30M impressions,” citing Nielsen, but it did not define “hundreds of thousands.
