David Axelrod Joins CNN As Senior Political Commentator

David Axelrod, former senior adviser to President Obama,

will begin as a CNN senior political commentator tomorrow, September 4; he will be unveiled on The Lead With Jake Tapper. It’s presumed this means Axelrod’s tenure as political analyst on MSNBC has come to an end. At CNN, he will add insights and analysis across CNN’s domestic, digital, and international networks.

CNN’s Washington bureau chief Sam Feist broke the news this morning:

Axelrod began his career at The Chicago Tribune, covering local, state, and national politics. He launched his career as a political consultant, contributing strategic guidance and producing ads for more than 150 political campaigns over three decades. He was at the forefront of the senate and presidential races of Paul Simon, Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the U.S. Senate in 2000, and the presidential campaigns of Bill Clinton and John Edwards. More recently, he was the senior strategist for Barack Obama’s 2004 race for the U.S. Senate for Illinois and for both of Obama’s presidential campaigns. David also served as a senior adviser to the president during Obama’s first term in the White House.
