Daniel Radcliffe is Jealous of Eddie Redmayne’s ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Costume
Like many, former “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe saw the photos of Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” and he’s got some serious costume envy.
Radcliffe commented on Redmayne’s attire in an interview with NME this week, lamenting his boy wizard wardrobe.
“Oh f–k you, Eddie, in your brilliant costume,” Radcliffe joked. “I got jeans and a zip top for 10 years and you’ve got a great coat already?”
Radcliffe starred as the titular wizard in the massively lucrative “Harry Potter” franchise from 2001 to its end in 2011.
“Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” follows “The Theory of Everything” Oscar winner Redmayne’s magizoologist Newt Scamander in 1920s New York. Author J.K. Rowling is making her feature screenwriting debut on the film, with David Yates, who helmed several of the last “Harry Potter” installments, directing.
The weirdest part for Radcliffe and the “Harry Potter” legacy, though, isn’t the Warner Bros. spinoff — it’s the upcoming stage production “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”
“It’s weird,” he said of seeing someone else play Potter. “But I’m happy for it to go on without me. I’ve no ownership of it.”
“Now that I know [Harry’s in it] I actually really want to see it,” he went on. “It would be a mental thing to try and see it with lots of very excited Harry Potter fans. But I kind of would like to know what happens now.”
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” hits theaters Nov. 18, 2016. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” will start playing in London in July, 2016.
