Dan Pfeiffer Joins CNN As Contributor

Dan Pfeiffer will appear on CNN’s The Lead With Jake Tapper today in a new capacity: CNN contributor.

Network chief Jeff Zucker announced the appointment this morning for the long-time top aide to President Barack Obama. Pfeiffer, one of Obama’s longest-tenured strategists, until March was the White House’s senior adviser for strategy and communications.

His first presidential campaign role came in a communications post for then-Vice President Al Gore’s 2000 campaign. He then worked for the Democratic Governors Association and later Sens. Tim Johnson, Tom Daschle and then Evan Bayh’s brief 2008 presidential campaign.

In 2007 he was recruited to join Obama’s presidential campaign, serving in a host of communications roles. He then served as communications director for much of Obama’s first term, before being promoted to senior adviser for the first two years of Obama’s second term.

For the uninitiated, here’s Pfeiffer talking, just a few days after leaving his gig, about his time in the Obama administration and the difference between Actual White House and Hollywood White House, to Grantland’s Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald:
