D Films Takes Canadian Rights to Baltasar Karmakur's 'The Deep'

WHISTLER, B.C. – Indie distributor D Films has acquired Canadian rights to Baltasar Karmakur’s The Deep, Iceland’s Oscar hopeful in the best foreign-language category.

The Canadian deal follows Focus World, a Focus Features division, taking U.S. rights to the shipwreck saga based on a true story.

D Films plans a winter 2013 release for The Deep.

The Canadian deal was unveiled by D Films president Jim Sherry and BAC Films’ international sales agent Mathieu Robinet.

Kormakur most recently directed Contraband, which starred Mark Wahlberg.

His next movie, 2 Guns, stars Denzel Washington and Wahlberg.
