Cynthia Cidre Joins ABC Drama ‘Oil’ As Executive Producer As Show Tweaks Title

When it comes to a big sprawling drama about oil, Dallas remains the gold standard. So it is fitting that Cynthia Cidre, co-creator executive producer of the well-received recent Dallas sequel series, has joined the latest entry in the field, ABC’s newly retitled fall drama series Blood & Oil (formerly Oil) as executive producer and co-showrunner.

Written by Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne and executive produced by Tony Krantz, Blood & Oil, centers on a young working-class couple (Chace Crawford, Rebecca Rittenhouse) who move to “The Bakken” in North Dakota, booming after the biggest oil discovery in American history, where they are pitted against a ruthless tycoon (Don Johnson) who forces them to bet big and put everything on the line, including their marriage. Cidre will serve as co-showrunner alongside Pate. The two executive produce with Krantz, Fishburne, Drew Comins and Don Johnson for ABC Signature.

Blood & Oil landed on ABC’s fall schedule in the high-profile Sunday 9 PM slot behind Once Upon A Time after a three-and-a-half-year journey. Originally developed and passed on by ABC, the drama was redeveloped at USA as a 90-min pilot until getting another pass and returning to ABC this past season where it went all the way.

Before co-creating and running the new Dallas series on TNT for three seasons, CAA-repped Cidre created another sprawling family saga, CBS’ Jimmy Smits-starrer Cane, set in the rum industry.
