The hippie-oriented "Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus'" director Sebastian Silva is quite liberal when it comes to drug use off screen, as well.

"I highly recommend kids to take drugs," he said in a recent video interview with Uinterview, adding: " No, but I'm not talking about cocaine or crystal meth, you know what I'm talking about its like …  yeah [laughs] that kind of stuff."

Silva was referring to mescaline, which Michael Cera and friends drink in the film.

Literally. Cera recently admitted that the cast was drinking real mescaline from a real San Pedro cactus on camera.

In the Uinterview, an uncomfortable Cera, who stars in the film and lived with Silva's family for three months, did not concur with the writer/director's sentiment.

"I don't know," Cera said. "The friends that I grew up with that have done drugs have been like really sad to watch. But [laughs] I've seen it get bad with people, so."

Before his statement, Chilean Silva, who plays Lobo in the film and whose life the film is based on, said:

"It's so important, I mean, to like develop somehow like a spiritual life or relationship with yourself that's outside of like mundane experience, right? And I feel that, yeah, if it's you not buying into religion, which is really hard to nowadays. I think this kind of substances kind of help step out of yourself and like see things differently."
