‘Conan’ At Comic-Con: TBS Show To Telecast Wednesday Through Saturday At Confab

Conan O’Brien announced his TBS late night show will air original episodes on Friday and Saturday nights the first full week of July when Conan becomes the first late night show ever to broadcast from San Diego during Comic-Con.

O’Brien will host the show from San Diego’s historic Spreckels Theater, with the episodes slated to air on TBS Wednesday, July 8 – Saturday, July 11.

In taking the show on the road, Conan’s playing to his strength. In February he and a small crew flew to Havana and spent the weekend filming for his show’s March 4 episode, becoming the first American late-night show to film in Cuba since the U.S. embargo began in 1962. A total of 3.7 million viewers checked out Conan In Cuba, not far behind the 4.2 million who’d caught the unveiling of his TBS series on November 8, 2010, marking the late-night veteran’s return to television. The Cuba show ranks as Conan’s most-watched destination special. The Cuba road trip was a ratings success from the start. An average of nearly 2 million people watched the premiere of Conan In Cuba on opening night; that included 1.3 million viewers at its 11 PM ET premiere and another 510,000 viewers for an immediate repeat. For comparison sake, 642,000 had watched O’Brien’s show one night earlier. The Cuba visit’s first telecast alone ranks No. 31 among all Conan telecasts to date.

During the Cuba special, Conan mocked CNN, learned the importance of the Cuban clave beat and wowed a band with his 8th grade Spanish skills. He also sampled a lot of rum, took an intensive rumba lesson, and visited the famous waterfront promenade where Cuban youth shared with him their rum, in a box, and cigarettes, which Conan speculated cost him all his show sponsors.
