Sci-fi projects are still a hot commodity, with Paramount closing a deal for the rights to Insurrection, a Boom! Studios comic created by writer Blake Masters. Masters is also attached to pen the script.

A sort of sci-fi Spartacus, Insurrection is a set in a future where corporations are more powerful than governments and command their own armies. The armies consist of clones who, for decades, have been treated like a sub-class. That all changes when one man stands up and leads a revolution that has vast repercussions.

Masters created the 2006 crime show Brotherhood and was a shorwunner for Law & Order: LA. He's also worked on feature films, and, while scripting Universal and Emmett/Furla’s adaptation Boom! comic 2 Guns, met the comic company’s principals. That led to Insurrection, which debuted in early 2011.

Masters is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.

This is the second sci-fi epic this week Paramount is involved in. The studio is in negotiations to pick up the spec Our Name is Adam which has Tom Cruise attached and is envisioned as a four-quadrant tentpole.

Tolmach in pre-production on the sequel to Amazing Spider-Man, which will reunite director Marc Webb with stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone while also adding Shailene Woodley.

Richie is a producer on 2 Guns, which will released by August 16, 2013
