Comic-Con Kicks Off with Major Star-Filled Parties

In a night filled with caped crusaders and masked men, it was only a matter of time before there’d be a case of doppelgangers in the Comic-Con firmament.

At the IGN And Focus Features’ the World’s End Comic-Con 2013 Party, host Simon Pegg came face to face with himself, as a fan dressed like Shaun from “Shaun of the Dead.”

The actor posed for pics with the fan, who paid homage to the zombie cult film with the character’s cricket bat, white shirt and “bit of red.”

Also at the July 18 party, held at Float in the Hard Rock Hotel, were “World” star Nick Frost, director Edgar Wright, Bill Paxton, Chris Hardwick and Sean Astin.

Across the way at Petco Park, the masked masses were being herded for MTV2’s Party in the Park. Featuring performances from the New Politics and Dillon Francis, the large-scale bash was open to the public and gave the nerd herd an outlet in which to party hardy. Ferris wheels, simulation stations, free food and liquor aplenty, all while taping an episode of “The Guy Code.” The shindig topped off with a large-scale fireworks display.

Down on F street at the Keating Hotel, Daniel Alter, Umberto Gonzalez and Edward Kaen, along with the Pussycat Dolls, hosted their annual Kings of Con party at the Keating Hotel. Complete with go-go dancers and a strict VIP area, the players club atmosphere was given proper nerd cred and brought back to Comic-Con levels with the presence of George R.R. Martin and “Dexter’s” David Zayas.

At Sidebar, Syfy’s “Haven” found its niche in the scene, properly creating a weird little party space fitting for any sci-fier. The club featured hanging cages of all sizes as cast, crews and celebs celebrated Comic-Con style. Partiers included Emily Rose and Eric Balfour.
