Cinema Guild Acquires ‘The Last Time I Saw Macao’

New York, NY —The Cinema Guild announced today the acquisition of U.S. distribution rights to “Our Beloved Month of August” the critically-acclaimed 2008 film from Miguel Gomes, whose new film “Tabu” was the hit of the 2012 Berlin Film Festival and will open in theaters later this year. “Our Beloved Month of August” will be available for screenings to the non-theatrical market and will be available to own on DVD in a comprehensive bonus-packed edition and VOD on December 18, 2012.

In the heart of Portugal, amid the mountains, the month of August is abuzz with people and activity. Emigrants return home, set off fireworks, fight fires, sing karaoke, hurl themselves from bridges, hunt wild boar, drink beer, and make babies. “Our Beloved Month of August” is an intoxicating blend of visuals, sound and music that follows the strange relationship between a father, a daughter and a nephew in a traveling pop band.

“Our Beloved Month of August” premiered in Cannes at the 2008 Director’s Fortnight and was Portugal’s official Foreign Language Film entry for the Academy Awards that year. In 2010, the film received a limited theatrical release. But despite making numerous critics and programmers top ten lists, it has never been released to the home video and digital markets in the US.

The deal was negotiated by Ryan Krivoshey of The Cinema Guild with Sandro Fiorin of FiGa Films.

The Cinema Guild is a distributor of independent, foreign and documentary films. Upcoming theatrical releases include Kleber Mendonca Filho’s “Neighboring Sounds,” Paul Lacoste’s “Step Up To The Plate,” Ra’anan Alexandrowicz’s “The Law In These Parts” and Raul Ruiz’s “Night Across The Street.”
