Christian Bale Knee Injury Means ‘The Deep Blue Good-by’ Will Follow ‘Wolverine 3′

BREAKING: The knee injury suffered by Christian Bale is serious enough that Fox will postpone the John D. MacDonald novel adaptation The Deep Blue Goodbye until its director, James Mangold, completes Wolverine 3 with Hugh Jackman. Bale suffered torn knee ligaments in an accident at his home. He has been filming The Big Short with Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt and Steve Carell in New Orleans, but they play stockbrokers and it’s not physically demanding. He plays a salvage hunter in the Fox film and that’s a lot more physically demanding. They all still want to go forward with what could start a franchise for the studio, so they’ll do the movie after Mangold finishes the next Wolverine installment, also for Fox. The Deep Blue Goodbye is the first in a series of 21 books by the late author MacDonald that focus on Travis McGee, a beach bum “salvage consultant” who reunites property with its rightful owners for a fee. Project is from Chernin Entertainment and Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson.
