‘Today’ Ratings Winning Streak Extended Thanks To Charlie Sheen Story

Charlie Sheen’s exclusive announcement he is HIV positive catapulted Today to its longest winning streak in more than three years; the morning infotainment show has topped ABC’s Good Morning America for 12 consecutive weeks now in the news demo.

Today was No. 1 for the week in the news demo (2.002M), besting GMA’s 1.762M and CBS This Morning‘s 1.039M. In winning all five days in the demo for a third consecutive week, Today’s demo win also was its biggest over GMA since NBC’s broadcast of the London Olympics in 2012.

GMA ranked No. 1 in total viewers for that week of November 16. But Today topped GMA both in total viewers and in the news demo on Tuesday, with its biggest single day victory since those London Olympics. Today on Tuesday (5.760 million total viewers) topped GMA outright by a giant 630,000 in overall audience, and 509,000 in the key demo (2.304 million).

In overall audience, GMA led the week with 5.170M viewers to Today’s 5.017M and CBS’ 3.554M. That’s Today’s closest total viewer margin with the ABC program since the Sochi Games.

CBS This Morning was the only network morning news broadcast to post year-to-year gains among overall audience (3% from 3.44m) compared to a year ago, according to Nielsen Live+Same Day ratings for the week ending November 20.
