Channing Tatum Makes Surprise Cameo During 'X-Men: Apocalypse' and 'Deadpool' Comic-Con Panels

Gambit is in the house.

Channing Tatum, who will star as the card-throwing mutant in an X-Men spinoff film, made a surprise appearance in Hall H on Saturday at the tale end of 20th Century Fox’s superhero heavy Comic-Con panel to take part in the world’s largest superhero group photo.

Tatum posed alongside Stan Lee, who was an equally welcomed surprise, and the casts of X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool, Fantastic Four, and Hugh Jackman, who re-confirmed the next Wolverine film will indeed be his last.

Earlier, during the X-Men: Apocalypse portion of the panel, so much juicy scoop was dropped on the fanboys and girls in attendance that we’ll just give you the highlights:

-The X-Men section started with a video tribute looking back on the franchise and included Jackman’s original audition tape. "I know they killed off Wolverine in the comic books,” he said onstage afterward. “But in the movies that's not happening yet.” Hence, that last Wolverine movie.

-We learned Apocalypse takes place 10 years after the events of Days of Future Past and, according to director Bryan Singer, mutants are now “accepted and widely embraced by society.” In another interesting revelation, Michael Fassbender says Magneto has “hung up his cape and evil ways” and the beginning of the movie and will have a family.

-Oscar Isaac talked about his role as the villainous Apocalypse, saying he wields incredible “powers of persuasion,” which is how he enlists Storm, Psylocke, Magneto, and Angel onto his side. "It's not the world it should have been. God's been asleep,” Isaac explained. “And God wakes up and says, 'It's got to change.'”

-We saw the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse! All of the younger versions of your favorite characters get face time into the trailer. Quicksilver (Evan Peters), who had a fan favorite scene in DOFP, is confirmed to do more of the same this time around. And we see Apocalypse in the flesh, blue as ever.

During the trailer, Apocalypse warns, “You are all my children. And you’re lost because you’ve followed blind leaders. Everything they have built will fall and from the ashes of their world, and we will build a better one.”

-Oh, and Hugh Jackman sat on Jennifer Lawrence’s lap. Because why not?

But as Beast himself, Nicholas Hoult, said during the panel -- effectively speaking the mind of all of Hall H -- "I can't concentrate because I'm still psyched about the Deadpool trailer."

It was a rather tough act to follow. During the Deadpool section of the night, we got a first look of Ryan Reynolds in action as Deadpool. It was *insanely* violent, *insanely* profane, and Stan Lee plays a strip club emcee. Basically, it’s everything a Deadpool movie should be.

“It’s an absolutely miracle that a studio let us make Deadpool, let alone a rated R Deadpool,” Reynolds explained, saying it’s “the most faithful” adaptation of a comic book movie yet. He later joked, “No matter what the rating is, babies will love this.”

The rest of the panel -- which included director Tim Miller, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Ed Skrein, and Gina Carano -- was probably the most NSFW panel in Comic-Con history. Like when Miller chit chatted about inappropriate sex with a horse.

Or when Reynolds as Deadpool introduced the film in a video message, saying, "From the studio who inexplicably sewed his f**king mouth shut the first time.”

That shade -- thrown at X-Men Origins: Wolverine -- wasn’t the only diss Reynolds had for his past superhero work. Remember Green Lantern? Reynolds does: "I've only done one proper-- Sorry, *not* proper, superhero movie,” he caught himself.

For what’s it’s worth, we don’t think he’ll repeat that mistake with Deadpool.
