Celluloid Connects to Miike’s Contempo Take

Celluloid Dreams/Uconnect has snatched up international sales rights to Japanese helmer Takashi Miike’s next feature project, a contemporary take on “Yotsuya Kaiden,” a famed Japanese ghost story.

Celluloid Dreams/Uconnect, the sales division of Belgium-based uMedia, is handling international sales on Miike’s cop thriller “Shield of Straw,” that’s set to unspool in competition today.

The pic will center on a pair of lovers in a play who “are thrown into their own hell where the play begins to horrifyingly unfold in real life,” per Celluloid Dreams/Uconnect.

Pic’s crew includes cinematographer Nobuyasu Kita (“13 Assassins”), production designer Yuji Hayashida and composer Koji Endo.

Sedic Intl. CEO Toshiaki Nakazawa is producing the film. Hengameh Panahi has a first look to produce.

Celluloid Dreams/Uconnect reps the pic in all territories, save Asia.
